Open Recreation is an option for students in Grades 2–4. During a two-hour session, children can freely explore a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, puzzles, board games, building blocks, and gym activities. Experienced staff will be present to supervise, support, and help create a positive environment while allowing children the freedom to make their own activity choices. Open Recreation is a great opportunity for children to practice independence, make responsible choices, manage their behavior, and enjoy time with friends when school is not in session.
Current sessions: November 30, December 28, 29, 30 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. OR 1:30-3:30 p.m. All sessions offered at Centerview Elementary School.
Fees: $15 per child per two-hour session.
Open Recreation Student Expectations
Open Recreation is designed to give students the opportunity to make choices, build independence, and enjoy time with friends in a fun and flexible environment. Because students can choose from a variety of activities, we ask that they be ready to manage their behavior, make responsible decisions, and follow the expectations below. These guidelines help ensure that Open Recreation remains a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Be Kind
Use friendly words and actions. Include others, share materials, and help make Open Recreation a place where everyone feels welcome.
Be Safe
Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Follow safety directions and use equipment and materials appropriately.
Be Respectful
Treat other students, staff, equipment, and activity materials with care. Listen when others are speaking and respect different choices and ideas.
Be Independent
Choose activities that interest you, get the materials you need, and try to solve problems on your own before asking for help.
Be Responsible
Take care of your belongings and the program materials. Clean up your activity and return items where they belong before moving on to something new.
Remain in Program Spaces
Stay in the areas designated for Open Recreation. Ask a staff member before leaving the program space or moving to another area.
Make Good Choices
Think about how your choices affect yourself and others. Choose activities you can participate in appropriately and make choices that help everyone have a fun experience.
